Why it matters

  • SpaceXSI bundled X Premium, Grok and Cursor into a single plan called The X Subscription.
  • The bundle has five tiers: free, Plus ($8/month), Premium ($30/month), Super ($100/month) and Ultra ($200/month).
  • The latest Grok models require the Premium tier ($30/month) or higher.
  • Existing X Premium+ subscribers pay the same or less for the comparable new plan, the company said.
  • The upgrade option rolls out gradually through users' X subscription and billing settings.

SpaceX Super Intelligence, the company now known as SpaceXSI, has folded all of its subscriptions — X Premium, Grok and Cursor — into a single paid plan called The X Subscription, with five tiers ranging from a free plan to an Ultra tier at $200 per month.

The restructuring, announced by the company, targets a paid AI subscription market where SpaceXSI competes directly with OpenAI, Anthropic and other rivals. The bet is straightforward: a combined offering could potentially attract more subscribers than any single subscription could on its own.

The stakes are material. Paid AI subscriptions have become the primary revenue engine for model developers, and SpaceXSI now owns three distinct subscription properties — social platform perks via X Premium, a consumer AI assistant in Grok, and a developer-facing coding tool in Cursor. Bundling them into one pricing ladder collapses three purchase decisions into one.

What does the X Subscription include?

The bundle spans every product category the company operates:

  • Grok for AI-powered chat, with support for voice, images, video and the API
  • Grok's agentic AI Bot (an AI agent that can take actions on a user's behalf)
  • Cursor for AI-assisted coding
  • X Premium paid features, including the blue verified checkmark, creator tools and fewer ads

That combination is unusual in the current market. OpenAI and Anthropic sell access to models and agent products; neither bundles a social network's premium tier or a standalone coding editor into the same plan. The X Subscription merges consumer chat, developer tooling and platform perks under one price.

How much does each tier cost?

The company has structured the offering in five plans, with AI usage caps (limits on how much subscribers can use the AI features each month) increasing as users move up the tiers:

  • Free — limited chat and agent usage only
  • Plus — $8/month
  • Premium — $30/month
  • Super — $100/month
  • Ultra — $200/month

One restriction sits at the middle of the ladder: the latest Grok models require Premium or higher. Free-tier users get limited chat and agent access, which positions the free plan as a trial mechanism rather than a full product.

The pricing brackets map closely onto the broader AI subscription market. OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus and Anthropic's Claude Pro both sit in the $20-per-month range, while pro-tier offerings across the industry have pushed toward and past the $100 and $200 marks. SpaceXSI's Plus tier, at $8, undercuts that entry-level band while folding in X Premium features that previously carried separate cost.

What happens to existing X Premium+ subscribers?

The company addressed the installed base directly. For existing X Premium+ subscribers, the comparable plan on the new X Subscription costs the same or less, the company noted.

That detail matters for churn. X Premium+ subscribers are the group most exposed to a pricing restructuring, and the company has pre-empted the objection by guaranteeing they pay no more for the equivalent tier. Existing users can switch from their subscription settings on X to upgrade to the new bundle, or they can maintain their current plan unchanged.

The rollout will not be instantaneous. The upgrade option will roll out gradually, and the company has told interested customers to watch their billing settings for the offer to appear.

Why does bundling matter in the paid AI market?

The competitive context defines the move. SpaceXSI faces rivals like OpenAI, Anthropic and others in a market where consumers increasingly hold multiple AI subscriptions and must choose where to consolidate spending. A bundle that delivers chat, coding tools and social platform perks in one bill gives the company a retention argument that single-product competitors cannot match.

The strategy also changes the economics of each individual product. A subscriber who joins for Cursor's AI coding features gains Grok access at no marginal cost, and a user who wants the blue checkmark and creator tools gains an AI assistant. Each product becomes a customer-acquisition channel for the others.

The tiered usage caps create the upgrade path. Free users get limited access; Plus users at $8 get more; users who need the latest Grok models must reach the $30 Premium tier; heavy users scale toward $100 and $200. The structure converts AI usage intensity directly into revenue tiers, the same ladder logic that OpenAI and Anthropic apply with their free, pro and premium offerings.

What comes next?

The gradual rollout means the market will see adoption data only in stages, as existing X users encounter the upgrade offer in their billing settings over time. The open question for SpaceXSI is whether the bundle can convert X's existing user base — people who already pay for platform perks — into AI subscribers at a rate that closes the gap with OpenAI and Anthropic, whose subscribers signed up specifically for AI.
