OpenAI Adds Credit Analytics and Spend Controls to ChatGPT Enterprise
OpenAI's ChatGPT Enterprise gains consolidated credit usage analytics, a unified Cost API, and tiered spend controls across workspaces, groups, and individual users.

Updated
Why it matters
- ChatGPT Enterprise admins get consolidated credit usage analytics for ChatGPT and Codex in the Global Admin Console, available starting today.
- A unified Cost API exposes the same credit usage data so companies can analyze spend in their own systems.
- Admins can now set workspace-default credit limits, per-group limits, and individual overrides; employees can view their budget and request more credits with context.
OpenAI has rolled out credit usage analytics and updated spend controls for ChatGPT Enterprise, aiming to give administrators a clear view of who is consuming what across users, products, and models. The features are available starting today, the company said in its announcement.
The release addresses a problem every large organization now faces as AI moves into everyday workflows: usage-based pricing models built on credits make spend unpredictable unless someone is actively watching the meter. OpenAI framed the update in exactly those terms, saying that "as AI becomes part of everyday work, organizations need the ability to manage it with the same rigor they apply to any critical business investment."
One console, one view
The centerpiece is an updated Global Admin Console that consolidates credit consumption for ChatGPT and Codex — OpenAI's coding product — into a single view. Admins can now track usage and credit trends over time, identify top users and emerging usage patterns, and break credit spend down across the workspace by user, product, and model.
That granularity matters because it lets organizations separate productive consumption from waste. As OpenAI put it, the breakdown makes it easier "to distinguish between increased usage driven by valuable work and usage patterns that may require closer review." In practice, an enterprise can now see whether a spike in credits came from a team legitimately scaling an AI-assisted workflow or from a small number of users burning budget on heavy model calls.
The data is not locked inside OpenAI's console. The same credit usage information is available through a unified Cost API, so companies can pull it into their own analytics and finance systems for deeper analysis.
Controls shaped around how teams actually work
The spend controls build on granular credit usage limits that OpenAI introduced earlier this year for custom roles in ChatGPT Enterprise. Those limits let workspace owners manage advanced model access for different types of users without imposing what OpenAI called "one-size-fits-all restrictions."
The new update adds three layers of configuration. Admins can set a default credit limit for the entire ChatGPT Enterprise workspace, configure different limits for specific groups, and create individual overrides for people who need more capacity.
End users get visibility too. Employees can see their credit usage against their available budget and request additional credits when they hit a ceiling — and they can attach context about what they are working on, so the admin making the decision has the information needed to judge the request. OpenAI describes this as a way to let "individual power users keep working without interruption or the need to increase limits for everyone else."
That workflow matters for enterprises trying to avoid two familiar failure modes: either blanket limits that throttle the heaviest and often most productive users, or unlimited access that produces a surprise bill at the end of the month.
Why this lands now
ChatGPT Enterprise is OpenAI's product for corporate deployments, and the economics of those deployments increasingly hinge on credit consumption tied to model usage, including more expensive advanced models. Enterprises evaluating AI investments want exactly what OpenAI is promising here: line-of-sight from spend to work product, and the ability to tune access without friction.
OpenAI positioned the combined update as a scaling enabler. "With clearer visibility and more flexible controls, organizations can proactively manage costs, give teams the access they need, and keep AI investments focused on the work that matters most," the company said.
Availability
ChatGPT Enterprise admins can start using the new analytics and updated spend controls today. Users within those workspaces can also view their own credit usage through their workspace settings. OpenAI is directing admins with implementation questions to its sales contact or their dedicated OpenAI account team.
The addition of a Cost API alongside the console suggests OpenAI expects enterprises to fold AI spend into existing financial reporting rather than treat it as a separate category — a signal of where enterprise AI procurement is heading as credit-based pricing matures.
