Meta Launches Enterprise AI Platform, Poaches MongoDB CEO to Run It

Meta announced Monday that it is launching "Meta Enterprise Platform," a new business unit that will sell the company's AI products to corporate customers — and it hired MongoDB CEO Chirantan "CJ" Desai to lead the initiative.

The move signals that Meta intends to monetize its consumer AI investments directly through business customers, putting it into sharper competition with Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in the enterprise AI market.

What Meta is selling

The new business builds on the momentum of Muse, Meta's personal AI assistant launched earlier this month that can perform tasks for users such as sending emails and booking travel. Meta says the enterprise platform will focus on bringing its full technology stack — including Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API, Muse Code, and more — to businesses and developers.

Desai framed the opportunity in sweeping terms.

"Over the coming years, AI will fundamentally redefine how organizations of all sizes innovate, grow, serve customers, and run business operations," Desai said in a statement. "Meta has a unique role to play because it is bringing together advanced models and leading agents with a proven track record of helping millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses scale. Meta Enterprise Platform will focus on turning its AI stack into products and services that companies can deploy for their own businesses."

Why the hire matters

Desai's departure from MongoDB was abrupt, and investors reacted sharply. MongoDB's shares dropped by more than 17% on the news of its CEO's sudden exit. The database maker appointed Dev Ittycheria as interim chief executive — a role he previously held — while the board searches for Desai's permanent replacement.

For Meta, Desai brings deep enterprise software experience. Running MongoDB, he led one of the most prominent publicly traded database companies, and he now takes charge of converting Meta's AI research and consumer products into revenue-generating business offerings.

The financial stakes

The move could help Meta see a return on the money it is pouring into AI. The company has committed billions of dollars to AI infrastructure and model development, and an enterprise business would give it a direct sales channel to companies willing to pay for AI agents, APIs, and coding tools — a market where rivals already generate substantial revenue.

Desai's own statement points to that track record: Meta already helps "millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses scale" through its existing ad tools. The enterprise platform extends that relationship from advertising into broader operational AI.

What comes next

Meta has not announced pricing, availability dates, or the first customers for the platform. The company says it will focus on turning its AI stack into deployable products and services, with Desai leading the initiative from the top.

The launch follows Muse's debut earlier this month, and Meta will need to move quickly: enterprise buyers already have mature options, and MongoDB's board now faces the task of finding a permanent CEO while its stock recovers.
