HP Scales OpenAI Frontier Partnership After Pilot Wins
HP is scaling its OpenAI Frontier partnership after pilots saw one engineer clear 122 pull requests across 43 projects and security teams unlock roughly 82 hours of weekly capacity.

Why it matters
- HP began testing OpenAI Frontier in February 2026 and will now scale the partnership across customer experience, telemetry insights, employee productivity, and software development.
- One HP engineer used OpenAI models to move through 122 pull requests across 43 projects in a matter of weeks; a security team remediated several bugs in a day, work estimated at up to a month.
- HP estimates roughly 82 hours per week of security-team capacity unlocked via ChatGPT; over 80% of HP's business flows through partners, with 100,000+ partners on the Partner Portal globally.
HP Inc. will scale activation of its OpenAI Frontier strategic partnership, the company announced, after a series of pilots that produced measurable early results — including one engineer moving through 122 pull requests across 43 projects in a matter of weeks.
A security team delivered another data point. Using OpenAI models, it remediated several software bugs in a single day — work the team estimated could otherwise have taken up to a month.
HP began testing OpenAI Frontier in February 2026. The scaled partnership will now deploy AI across the organization in four main areas: customer and partner-facing solutions and experiences, customer telemetry insights and reporting, employee productivity, and software development.
The story matters beyond HP's walls. More than 80% of HP's business flows through partners, with over 100,000 partners using the Partner Portal globally, making HP one of the largest enterprise deployments of OpenAI's Frontier platform announced to date. It also offers a template for how large companies convert scattered AI pilots into a governed, production-grade operating model — the problem most Fortune 500 AI programs currently face.
From pilots to daily workflows
HP's early results came fast. "It has been an amazing tool, and I am using it daily," one HP engineer said of the OpenAI tools. HP teams found immediate value in OpenAI APIs and tools like ChatGPT and Codex inside real everyday work — compressing time, reducing friction, and improving execution, according to the company.
For enterprise engineering teams, time typically disappears as code moves through tests, reviews, security checks, and handoffs across tools and sprint plans. At HP, OpenAI tools helped compress that cycle into a faster, more collaborative rhythm.
Those individual wins, HP concluded, could become part of a repeatable system scaled across the enterprise.
Frontier as the operating layer
Frontier plays the central role in the next phase. As HP expands from pilots to a broader portfolio of agents and AI workflows built on OpenAI tools, the company is using Frontier as a unified platform to understand what is running, what context each system can use, how actions are governed, and how outcomes are evaluated.
Frontier gives HP the operating model for that motion: connecting access, context, deployment, and evaluation as the work moves from pilots toward production.
That governance layer is not optional for a company of HP's complexity. Agents operating across HP's distributed environment need to know which context to trust, which tools they can access, what actions they are allowed to take, and how their outputs will be evaluated over time.
Channel and support workflows
HP's channel ecosystem is a major platform opportunity. With more than 80% of its business flowing through partners and 100,000+ partners using the Partner Portal globally, consistency across touchpoints carries direct revenue implications.
Frontier will help HP create a more consistent self-service layer across store, partner, chat, and voice experiences, giving customers and partners faster ways to get answers, complete routine workflows, and move toward resolution or conversion. For partners, AI agents can provide always-on guidance across program navigation, business information, and partner operations management — shortening information-to-action times, improving satisfaction, and reducing manual load.
Device fleets and the Workforce Experience Platform
HP's Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) gives CIOs a single pane of glass for managing entire fleets of devices. Using Frontier, HP is exploring how device telemetry, support knowledge, operational objects, schemas, and runbooks can help AI reason across fleet health signals — investigating crashes, Wi-Fi issues, and app hangs faster, and eventually supporting grounded remediation.
Security as proof point and governance test
Security is both a proof point and a governance layer for the program. HP teams have used ChatGPT to proactively remediate critical vulnerabilities and speed security analysis across tools, with a directional estimate of roughly 82 hours per week of security-team capacity unlocked.
As these cases scale, Frontier's support for permissioning, evaluation, and deployment controls lets HP move quickly and free up human capital while keeping the work reviewable.
ChatGPT and Codex split the work
HP assigns the two tools distinct roles. ChatGPT supports broad knowledge work such as research, analysis, ideation, and workflow automation. Codex supports modernization, planning, UI scaffolding, and parallel software-delivery tasks.
Why the breadth matters
What makes HP's work with OpenAI notable is the breadth of the program under a single strategic partnership, according to the announcement, with early proof points showing strong momentum. Frontier is building what HP describes as connective tissue that turns pilot momentum into a governed operating model: shared context, clear permissions, evaluation, reusable deployment patterns, and a path from proof of concept to production.
For HP, AI is becoming a new layer for how work gets done across the company. Enterprise transformation rarely starts all at once — it begins when small teams prove a new way of working is possible. HP's bet, now scaled, is that with OpenAI Frontier that layer can be built with the context, governance, and execution capacity needed to move from early wins to enterprise-wide transformation.
