Napster Plans AI Teacher Clones for 24/7 Homework Help in UAE Schools

Napster, the file-sharing pioneer turned streaming service turned AI company, will build "digital twins" of teachers to answer student questions around the clock under a new partnership with GEMS Education, one of the largest private K-12 school operators in the Middle East.

The company announced the deal last week. The program calls for developing and testing digital teacher personas that provide multilingual, 24/7 support to students outside school hours. Napster says it will base the offering on Napster Learn, its education platform that uses a clip-on AI assistant called Napster View to interact with users.

Deployment across GEMS schools in the Middle East is targeted for the end of 2026. The timing follows the introduction of an AI curriculum in the UAE earlier this month, giving the partnership a policy tailwind in a country actively pushing AI into classrooms.

Napster says safety measures are part of the design. The company's statement says guardrails and safety protocols will be incorporated and will keep "humans informed and able to intervene if necessary."

The stakes are real. Schools could use always-available digital avatars as justification to cut staff or suppress pay. AI models are documented producers of incorrect facts and bizarre hallucinations, and a digital teacher could spread misinformation to students in multiple languages before anyone notices the error. There is also the broader worry of replacing human interaction with computers during children's formative years.

International regulators share that concern. A recent Chinese proposal on AI companions specifically warns against technology that makes children emotionally dependent on artificial characters rather than real people.

A Napster representative did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.

The company's path to education runs through acquisition. Infinite Reality, a tech startup specializing in VR and AI, bought Napster in 2025, and the rebranded company now carries those ambitions into the classroom.

If the GEMS rollout stays on schedule, the end of 2026 will mark one of the first large-scale tests of whether cloned teacher personas can supplement — rather than substitute for — human educators.
